A Treehouse Tea for Hot Days
I use the term Treehouse “Tea” pretty generously around here.
Sometimes it’s actual tea. Sometimes it’s herbal tea. Sometimes it’s lemonade pretending to be tea. Sometimes it’s hydration with a better marketing team.
It starts with berry herbal tea, but the tea bags are only the beginning.
The cherry flavor doesn’t come from cherry juice. It comes from extract. And that’s one of my favorite things about this drink.
Because of my loose definition of tea, I use loose leaves, culinary herbs, powders, and bagged options to make infusions that enhance flavor, making the nutritional properties more available for the bodies I care for in the Treehouse, or to provide a foundation for a specific purpose or experience.
If you look at this recipe and think:
Eight tea bags in only two cups of boiling water?
It’s not a typo…and, stay with me, it’ll make more sense.

Cherry Berry Chiller
Fuel Flow: Carb Forward
Treehouse Tea
Makes 1 gallon | Approximately 12 servings
Ingredients:
8 Wild Blackberry tea bags or Wild Berry Zinger tea bags
2 cups boiling water
1 teaspoon cherry extract
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 cups coconut water
1 teaspoon mineral salt
2 teaspoons raw honey
½–1 teaspoon pure monk fruit extract powder, to taste
Ice
Cold water to fill a 1-gallon pitcher
Directions:
1. Pour the boiling water over the tea bags in a heat-safe container.
2. Allow to steep for several hours for a deeply flavored, concentrated tea base. For an overnight steep, allow the tea to cool and transfer it to the refrigerator.
Remove the tea bags.
3. Add the cherry extract, lemon juice, coconut water, mineral salt, honey, and ½ teaspoon monk fruit. Stir well and taste. Add additional monk fruit if desired.
4. Transfer to a 1-gallon pitcher and add plenty of ice. Add enough cold water to fill the pitcher.
7. Stir well and serve cold, or refrigerate until needed.
Want It Fizzy?
This is one of the advantages of starting with concentrated tea: you haven’t committed all that remaining pitcher space to plain water.
Add the tea mixture and ice, then use chilled soda water in place of some or all of the cold water. Add the soda water last, stir gently, and serve right away while the bubbles are still doing their thing.
Fuel Flow
The coconut water and small amount of honey are distributed throughout the full gallon and provide carbohydrates, even though the amount will vary based on an individual’s personal consumption.
As always, if the fuel designation is integral, you need to pay attention to how it best fits your lifestyle, body and personal goals.
This is especially significant for those following the Trim Healthy Plan. This drink, as written will be best paired with an Energizing meal.
