Not Everything That Can Grow Should: May Moon Wisdom

Selective Growth Is Still Growth

May is the month when everything looks possible.

Light lingers longer.
Energy feels more available.
The world begins to ask, “What are you doing with this?”

The Flower Moon rises when growth is visible everywhere—buds opening, plans forming, momentum returning. Culturally, May is framed as a green light: say yes, take on more, make up for lost time.

But the body remembers winter.

May is NOT asking you to grow everything.
It is asking you to choose what is worth tending.

What May Is Actually About

May is often framed as:
🌕Expansion
🌕Opportunity
🌕Productivity returning
🌕“Finally getting back to life”

But for people who live from capacity—NOT culture—May is a discernment month.

You may notice:
🌕More invitations than energy
🌕Ideas multiplying faster than follow-through
🌕Pressure to commit before you’re ready
🌕Guilt for not matching visible growth around you

If May feels overwhelming instead of exciting, it’s NOT because you’re unmotivated.

It’s because NOT all growth is sustainable.

The Flower Moon Truth
Growth Requires Choice

In nature, NO plant is expected to bloom everywhere at once.

Growth is selective by design.

The Flower Moon reminds us:

JUST BECAUSE SOMETHING CAN GROW DOES NOT MEAN IT SHOULD.

Energy is finite.
Attention is finite.
Care is finite.

May is NOT about maximizing potential.
It’s about protecting what can actually thrive.

Released Belief (Set This Down)

“If I don’t say yes now, I’ll miss my chance.”

This belief turns opportunity into pressure.

You are NOT obligated to:
🌕keep pace with others’ seasons
🌕prove your recovery or resilience
🌕compensate for winter by overcommitting

Missing some things is how you preserve the things that matter.

Restored Truth (Carry This Instead)

SELECTIVE GROWTH IS FAITHFUL STEWARDSHIP

Tending fewer things well:
🌕prevents burnout
🌕protects relationships
🌕honors limits
🌕sustains momentum over time

You are allowed to grow slowly, narrowly, and intentionally.

That is NOT settling.
That is wisdom.

What Selective Growth Looks Like in Real Life

Selective growth may mean:
🌕Choosing one priority instead of five
🌕Returning to something familiar rather than starting new
🌕Declining “good” opportunities to protect capacity
🌕Letting others’ expectations pass without explanation
🌕Focusing on nourishment, NOT output

If your life feels smaller in May than culture promises, that does NOT mean you’re stuck.

It means you’re tending wisely.

When Comparison Shows Up This Month

May comparison often sounds like:
🌕“Everyone else is doing so much.”
🌕“I should be further along by now.”
🌕“Why does this feel harder for me?”

Here’s the reframe:

FLOURISHING LOOKS DIFFERENT IN DIFFERENT SOIL

If comparison is loud, check for:
🌕invisible labor you’re carrying
🌕recovery others don’t see
🌕limits that require ongoing care
🌕seasons others are NOT living

You are NOT behind.
You are growing within your reality.

A Gentle May Practice (Optional)

This month’s practice is about choosing fewer things.

Once this month, ask:

“What is one thing I can tend without strain?”

Let that be enough.

NO expansion plan.
NO five-year vision.
NO proving.

One thing tended well is plenty.

If Reflection Feels Like Too Much

You do not need to evaluate your growth.

You do not need to justify your pace.

May does not require a strategy—
only honesty about capacity.

Skipping this post is allowed.

Partner & Family Translation (Share If Helpful)

“May is a selective growth month for me.
I’m choosing what I can tend without burning out.
What helps most is not pushing me to do more just because I can.”

Choosing less is NOT disengagement.
It’s protection.

Faith-Forward Reframe (If That’s Your Language)

In Scripture, pruning is NOT punishment—it’s care.

God does NOT measure faithfulness by how much grows,
but by whether what grows can last.

Fruit that remains is NOT rushed.

Closing Thought

The Flower Moon does NOT ask you to bloom everywhere.
It asks you to grow where you are rooted.

If May feels quieter, narrower, or more intentional than expected, nothing is wrong.

You are NOT wasting potential.
You are protecting it.

This month, choosing less—
and tending it well—
is more than enough.

I am celebrating five years of being a Certified Trim Healthy Lifestyle Coach. I have lived an abundance of seasons within just these five years. I was a nursing mom, pregnant multiple times, survived a traumatic pregnancy loss in 2022, lived in survival mode from 2022-2025 while being an ambassador for survivors of sexual assault and facilitating the legal aspects of a criminal trail against the perpetrator for those assaults, almost died due to pulmonary embolism after my eighth child was born in 2023, and somewhere in there lost and gained 80 pounds after identifying binge-eating disorder as a new challenge. I KNOW too well that life slows down for nobody and no situation, and every meal is a new opportunity to be a begin-againer!
